The merger between Lafarge and Holcim in 2015 and the subsequent reorganisation of the corporate functions presented the HR team with considerable challenges. The loss of internal HR employees led to additional staff shortages. The innovative construction solutions company needed immediate external HR support. Our HR People Community was there to help.

Initial situation
The merger of Lafarge and Holcim in 2015 led to a comprehensive reorganisation of the corporate functions, which placed great demands on the HR department.
Due to the simultaneous loss of several internal HR employees, the team was no longer able to meet the increasing demands in the areas of organisational management, Time Management, HR administration and Payroll. In this critical situation, external support was essential to ensure the continuity and efficiency of HR services.

Solution
We provided five Payroll specialists from our HR community, including three internal and two external specialists. They took over part of the entire Payroll and HR administration. The requirements included the complete takeover of Payroll and HR administration, the implementation of an internal application process with new employment contracts for several hundred employees and the establishment of a new "Global Corporate SAP organisational structure". The specialists also supported the internal HR staff with the introduction of "Workday".
Project
The comprehensive technical knowledge of our specialists played a decisive role in the success of this challenging phase. In the event of specific technical difficulties, we were able to call on internal consultants, which increased the efficiency of the project. The temporary experts also showed a great deal of empathy and sensitivity in dealing with the stress caused by the merger and reorganisation.
To this day, Holcim counts on the support of HR People, our HR community, in the event of short-term bottlenecks. This strengthens cooperation in the long term and increases the company's flexibility.
