Initial situation
The appraisal process of the city of Kloten was previously perceived by employees as a compulsory exercise and somewhat outdated, as it involved a backward-looking assessment. It also caused a high administrative burden and only supported the corporate vision to a limited extent.
The aim of the city of Kloten was to optimise the employee appraisal process and make it future-oriented and digital. In addition, the vision "Kloten connects: People - Places - Potential" was to be brought to life through the process change and thus initiate a cultural change.

Solution
The city of Kloten chose us to provide strategic support. A key aspect was the co-creative approach, in which 10% of employees were involved from the outset in order to ensure a high level of acceptance for the new process. Change management was an essential part of the project. It began with a large group workshop in which the basic values for the new process were defined. The details of the process were then worked out in design workshops and the final "compass" was developed to support the Vision 2030.
Project
The scepticism of many participants towards the co-creative approach was noticeable at the beginning. It took courage to embark on this new path without knowing what the end result would be. However, as the workshops progressed, it became clear that the employees were already convinced of the new process and the changes before go live. As a result, the appraisal interview is now perceived as a useful management tool that not only serves to evaluate employees, but also supports their future development.
In addition, this project has actually triggered a cultural change. Cooperation and communication between employees and managers has improved, which has contributed to a more positive working atmosphere. The city of Kloten is now well on the way to achieving the goals set for Vision 2030 and establishing a modern and future-orientated HR culture.
